The Cedar River rises
Heavy rains and straightened creeks
Small farmers lost their land
Large owners straightened creeks

Scene of river with logs

Rivers rise and reach
Above their banks
8.76 feet
They swell

Steps to the river bank and deck.

Stones upon the earth
I walked so many times
Through the water
Gathering wood for winter’s fires
