Safety No Matter How Nice A Day
When it comes to keeping yourself safe, you cannot let down your guard
I’m on a self-imposed writer’s retreat at my son’s, but cautious as ever.
I started a piece for Medium that went in a different direction than I planned. Then, I re-read ten chapters of a novel I’m writing since I haven’t worked on it for many months.
I had lunch and decided I would take a walk. There’s a beautiful trail behind the apartment complex my son lives in now. He moved to Colorado in August, and this is my first visit. I wanted to think through the next chapter for my novel.
The trees are just coming alive with the warm days and sun, causing the ornamental tree flower buds to swell and burst. The leaves are further behind but rapidly catching up.
Being outside would help me think of how to proceed with the book. I was sure of it.
But, when I got to where I’d pick up the trail, there was an old ten-seat conversion van — really roached out — in the parking lot. My plan changed, I walked the road instead.
