The 5-second rule is a productivity concept introduced by Mel Robbins in her book ‘The 5 Seconds Rule’.

What is it?

If you have to start or complete unpleasant work, count backward from 5 and then push yourself mentally to start the work.

Where do you use it?

Suppose you want to wake up early tomorrow. When the alarm rings, tell yourself 5…4…3…2…1 and go.

It is a mental push you give yourself to start the work that you don’t like to do.

By counting backward, you bring the momentum to your side. It increases the impulse to do the work before you think about the obstacles and excuses.

You can implement it in any other tasks like-

  • Calling that difficult customer
  • Talking to your colleague about your opinion
  • Going to gym
