Many of our regular visitors showed up before I got back to the deck. Of course, their keen observation skills alerted everyone to find a branch next to the feeders. No reservations are needed.

The cleaning and feeding were accomplished at (-5)…I’m not as tough as our 16 years in Alaska.

We take care of our backyard habitat each year (17 years) in Washington State. The birds show their trust in us by not flying away when we place more birdseed just 10 feet away.

Taking care of birds, dogs, cats, horses or any living thing instills a deeper sense of caring for the nature of all living things (including people).

Our neighbors help each other when a task is overwhelming and needs to be fixed soon. Over the years, we cared for our neighbor’s animals, cut firewood, and removed snow from roofs.

Photo by author. February 2023 and I haven’t walked out to the farthest bird feeder to clean and fill with feed. (author note; no footsteps, yet)

You will take actions that are outside your comfort zone when others need help. This only is easier when you participate in the solutions.
