Tip from the Poet’s Path: Listen to the rhythm and flow of your writing.

Week thirteen slipped away as I poured my time and energy into cultivating the second draft of my poetry book, The Grape Picker’s Daughter. I’m still charting my course with my Six-Step Publication Plan for the BYOB Challenge.

Like in my BYOB Challenge, every so often my life takes me on unexpected detours. For instance, I had a major issue with my SUV a few weeks ago. My car, known as Big Blu, gave me an obvious message: that it was time to part ways. It may sound strange that my car has a name. But my son, Joseph, named her when he was a young boy. Somehow her name stuck even after almost twenty years and she had become a part of our family, but the moment had arrived to bid her farewell.

My Mamá used to say life is a school, so learn your lessons well.

In my experience, I’ve learned I had the choice to either battle against the current or embrace the natural rhythm of life. It would be easy to sit and cry about how life is unfair that I don’t have a car anymore or when anything goes wrong in life.
