Winter
Winds
Outside the air is freezing
Winds wend and oscillate
Up in the high country
They tend to congregate
Past the vast Abercrombie
Round Oberon and Jerrong
They whistle in winter
And sing their soulful song
Manifest they stand the test
Of aeons over time
Written by the smitten
An iambic foot of rhyme
They swerve around the sentinels
And cause the trees to sneeze
And brings the hapless traveller
Cold news on the breeze
Winter winds have a language
Unlike a summer song
A type of anxious yearning
That winter winds prolong
There’s a moan and a groan
And the pain of peeling
Licking through the layers
Deep cold inside I’m feeling
My mind’s up north back and forth
Crossing the Capricorn
Then to awake on a lake
Of summer in the dawn
