100% Cuban Cigars
Read the fine print
A cigar shop in the Miami airport was doing a fairly brisk trade. In giant letters on the side of the shop, it said “100% Cuban”.
The assumption, and the reason people shopped there, was that they were 100% Cuban cigars. It’s not like most people know any Cuban brands. They just know “Cuban = the best”.
If you got close to the shop, however, you could read the tiny line of print beneath the giant letters. It read, “seeds, grown in Nicaragua”.
As far as I know, there’s nothing different or unique about the strain of tobacco grown in Cuba. It’s the soil and the climate that makes the difference, as well as the labor-intensive manual harvesting and rolling.
So, the fact that cigars came from Cuban seeds is irrelevant.
But it made great advertising.
