Is it pandering?
I was surprised to see, in my stats, that I got thousands of reads in the last week. What were they reading? The articles I published last week didn’t show any unusual traffic spikes.
Some of that turned out to be people reading responses I’d written to extremely popular articles. Hundreds of people also read my past long form articles.
