An Ode to Fiona the Ficus

My 21-year-old Golden Gate Ficus Bonsai

Looking less like a Bonsai and more like a bush,

I’m letting her grow wild to give her roots a push.

After transplanting to a new larger pot,

She needs new root growth now a lot.

But a good trimming will come soon,

A haircut, if you will, after a few new moons.

She spent the summer outdoors, a place she just loves,

But December now, so she is indoors by a window because.

Fiona doesn’t like the cold, much like me,

So we both stay indoors when temps drop, you see.

Fiona is one of my favorites, but don’t tell the others,

Some will get jealous, including her brothers.

Most of my Bonsai stay outdoors all year long,

Ficus and Jade must come indoors where they belong.
