Are driverless vehicles the future? I can’t see it happening, but I’ve been wrong about so many things, you’d better not take my word for it.

I saw my first driverless vehicle yesterday; a small bus being trialled in a quiet suburb. It was travelling at a walking pace down the road. It’s not going to get far at this speed.

Eventually it made its way back to its home — a shed not much bigger than it was. It reversed in perfectly, with only centimeters to spare on either side.

I can’t reverse in. I always park front in — I’ve tried reversing, but I can’t get the hang of it.

The problem with self-driving vehicles is, until drivers are completely obsolete, they will still have to take into consideration crazy drivers. No amount of smart technology can deal with that.
