Can I Talk to a Human, Please?

Stuck in phone prompt abyss

I pressed 2 first to confirm my problem wasn’t an emergency then 4 for technical support.

The next prompt asked for my account number but I didn’t have one. I simply needed a technician’s assistance to remove an old telephone box from a building my boss is renovating.

I ignored the account number request and pressed 0 hoping to reach a real living, breathing human. Instead, the recording told me that 0 wasn’t a valid option. It repeated its last request.

Enter your account number.

Argh. None of the options in their triage of prompts fit my situation and I couldn’t move past their account number request to speak to someone.

Why can’t a press this number for a human option exist?

I always thought my kids were being silly when they predicted robots would eventually take over the world. Now it seems they may be right.
