Charged By a Bull

We were in a car

We were driving up the road to our development, just as a pair of free-range Brahman cattle were coming down. We all stopped and stared at each other.

The cow moved first. She wisely and rapidly stepped to the side of the road. Then, she continued downhill on the grassy verge.

The bull stared. Then he began moving — directly toward our car. He broke into a run, thundering towards us.

Was he going to defend his territory? If he injured himself by running into our stopped car, who would be at fault? The insurance billboard for a car being crushed by a bull suddenly seemed less amusing.

At the last moment, good sense prevailed, and he ran past the car. He could have hit us, but he let us go this time with a warning.
