Count on It
An easy way to stay focused while meditating
My favorite way to meditate is to sit still for twenty minutes. But it is always tricky to keep my mind focused because obviously, my mind is wandering all over the place, across the world.
When this happens, using numbers as an anchor really helps. Instead of avoiding thinking, which is near impossible, numbers make it easier to focus as we redirect our thoughts.
So, while meditating, as you breathe, count slowly to 100 in your head. It is okay if your thoughts wander when you do this — bring them back gently to the counting.
Do this as often as you need to . . . eventually, your mind will calm down and become quieter.
