Crime Always Pays — Chapter Eighty-Four

“We don’t like when civilians use themselves as bait,” Officer Stein confessed. “But we’re spinning our wheels. Stan’s men are liable. That’s easy to see. But as for your boss, he’s covered his tracks.”

“Leave it with me,” Raven said. “He’s trusting me more every day. I’ll surprise you once I get the proof I need. Stan’s guiltier than you think.”

With a shake of their hands, Raven rushed off to work. Officer Stein had assured her that with his help, her crimes would garner community work as her sentence; nothing sterner.

Raven wondered what she should report back to Stan.

She didn’t like he felt he owned her.

“From now on, you’re all mine,” he had said.

“You can believe what you want, Stan,” Raven mused as temporary inner strength found her. “But one wrong move, and I’m taking you down.”
