Crime Always Pays — Chapter Eighty-Seven
Stan was waiting at the door when Raven arrived. His scowl confirmed his agitation, which softened as he held her in his arms.
“What took you so long?” he asked.
“Nothing. I wanted to dress fancy, Stan. Please don’t be mad.”
He guided her into his study and offered her a brandy.
“So, Raven, tell me everything you know.”
“Well, Officer Stein’s been tracking your men and me. He knows you deal in cash, so they’ve already got you on tax evasion,” Raven lied.
“Oh really? What else?”
“That’s all I know. I didn’t want to raise suspicions.”
“You did good, my sweetie. Continue to dig.”
Stan flashed her a golden smile, then led her upstairs.
“I have something to show you, Raven, in honour of my appreciation.”
As Stan removed his shirt, she gasped at the tattooed ravens on his back.
