Dear Little Deer

Learning to cross the street

The other evening, I was driving home to my father’s house in New York, when I spotted a deer in the middle of the road. They’re often seen crossing roads around dusk, so I was alert and came to a stop. In the opposite direction, the oncoming cars also stopped to wait for the deer.

A mother deer bounded across the road, followed by the first of her two fawns…
