I woke up with a fading conversation lingering from a dream.

“I was happy.” “You looked smug?” “Yeah, that’s what I meant.”

In my hypnagogic state, I couldn’t tell happy from smug.

My personal connotation of smug is ‘happy at someone’s expense.’

Cambridge defines smug: too pleased or satisfied about something you have achieved or something you know. I’m sure…
