Have You Tried Tomatillos in Your Salsa?

Native to Mexico, tomatillos are a staple in sauces for many Mexican dishes.

If you’ve had green sauce or salsa verde, you’ve likely had tomatillos.

They’re a perfect addition full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Tomatillo and chile de arbol salsa

Ingredients

  • 7 tomatillos (husked)
  • 5–10 chile de arbol (depending on desired spiciness)
  • 1/4 quartered white onion
  • 2 quartered Roma tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients, except salt, to a medium saucepan and cover with at least an inch of water.
  2. Bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer until tender.
  4. Drain water.
  5. Let sit for 5 –10 minutes — it will be hot.
  6. Add ingredients to blender.
  7. Pulse.
  8. Add and adjust salt for taste.
  9. Pour into bowl and serve.

*1/4 cup chopped onion and cilantro are excellent options stirred in at the end.
