Honouring Our Fallen: The Last Post Ceremony at Menin Gate, Ypres

--

The Last Post Ceremony occurs every evening at 8pm at the Menin Gate in Ieper (Ypres), Western Belgium. Each evening, the traffic halts and a hush falls over the gathered crowd.
The tradition has been upheld since 1928, come rain or shine. It is more than a ceremony — it is a tribute to countless soldiers who laid down their lives in the First World War
The bugle call was historically used to end the day’s activities but takes on a deeper significance in present times as it serves as a call to remembrance, a sound that pays tribute to those who marched through this gate, full of hope and valour, unaware of the fate that awaited them.

Inspired by our very own photographers and travellers, Christina Daniels, Marcus, and Kleri.
