Husband’s Car Ordeal Gets Worse

It’s back in the garage (part 2)

We paid over £2000 to have the car fixed recently. If we’d known it needed a new gearbox, we wouldn’t have paid for the service and MOT. It was returned to us on Monday. It sat on the drive yesterday, and my husband tried to attend a hospital appointment today.

He turned on the ignition. The car went ‘bang bang bang’ — it sounded like a metal rod hitting something. It wasn’t going anywhere. I called a neighbour. Could they take him to the hospital? No, they were going somewhere else. He had to cancel.

The car mechanic came round. Apparently the battery needs replacing. It’s gone back to the garage. “Expensive,” they said. “Prices have gone up.”

The car only cost us £2000 five years ago. It’s not worth anything like that now. I wish we could have foreseen these problems. We’d have ditched it before the MOT was due!
