We read To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee my freshman year of high school.

Before I met Scout and Boo, I hadn’t read any fiction that changed my world view like that story.

I wanted more…especially from a woman’s perspective.

But the rest of our high school literature curriculum focused on dead white men’s work and I found most of it a big snooze fest.
