I Left My Annual Review This Week Covered in Bird Feathers

At least that’s what it felt like

I had my annual review this week. I went into the meeting with high hopes.

Last year my raise was minuscule so I asked what I could do to earn a larger increase this year. They gave me a list.

I worked hard to achieve the goals they set. Halfway through the year, I earned a title change.

My review was glowing. They showered me with words like showed initiative.

Great at time management.

Took on new challenges.

Managed a project well.

Then they proceeded to give me a minuscule raise. My disappointment was palpable.

They continued to shower me with praises.

I left the meeting feeling like I’d been covered in fluffy bird feathers.

Their words may have felt good but they had no weight.
