It’s a Beach? It’s a Plane?
It’s a beach and a plane because the beach is a runway
Well, well, well, have you heard of the airport in Scotland that doubles as a beach?
Yep! Barra’s airport runway doubles as an actual beach — with sand, clams, seaweed, tourists and other beach stuff.
Located on the Isle of Barra, Loganair flights use a 2,365 foot long runway and schedules takeoffs and landings during low tide. Twice a day, during high tide, the runway is under water.
It is regularly checked for unwanted seaweed and marine life.
The beach runway has become a tourist hotspot, with visitors coming in to watch planes land and take off while sipping on coffee and buying souvenirs at the airport’s gift shop.
Let’s just say that Barra Airport is giving “runway models” a whole new meaning!

Interesting, eh? 😃
