It’s My First Mother’s Day in 30 Years Without My Kids Physically Present
From conception, our offspring steal our hearts and quietly rob us of many freedoms: a solid night’s sleep, personal time without a squeal or demand, a sexy body — and sometimes, a career.
Would I reverse time knowing this?
Absolutely not.
Being a mom will always have its moments, especially when your child is hurting, struggling or ill. But I wouldn’t replace being a mom for anything. Every scar and sacrifice was — and still is — worth it.
As my bairns become adults and flee the coop, I’m relishing and mourning simultaneously. Although I’m sad not to have my kids about today, a girlfriend reminded me:
The best gift to you today is raising three amazing kids who feel safe spreading their wings.
To all expectant, solo, grand or furbaby moms, Happy Mother’s Day. To the women who would have loved to have kids, but can’t: My heart goes out to you.
