ONE-CITY-PER-DAY CHALLENGE
Mdina, Malta
On the streets of the Maltese medieval city
Mdina is a fortified city founded by Phoenician settlers in the Northern Region of Malta. It was the capital city from antiquity to the medieval period.
While wandering in its streets, you feel something different from the other island’s cities.
Mdina is called the “Silent City”.
Not surprising.
The city remained the center of the Maltese nobility and religious authorities, making it a relatively quiet city. Moreover, the ban on cars (except for a limited number of residents) reinforces the feeling of quietness, even if Mdina is one of the most touristic places in Malta.
Since Mdina was the filming location for the capital city of King’s Landing in Game of Thrones, its popularity has doubled. Who knows if this rising popularity will not make the city lose its popular nickname?
