In English, ‘Mee Siam’ is known as ‘Siamese noodle’, a popular noodle dish among the ‘Peranakan’ tribe in Malaysia.

I always feel sentimental when I catch a whiff of the spicy herbs mixed in the dish.

It reminds me of my childhood days at my late grandmother’s house. Her kitchen smells of the fried chillies all the time.

This noodle is made of thin rice vermicelli cooked in a spicy, rich seafood broth. Originated from the Malay community with a slight hint of Thai flavors.

Each spoonful of these noodles, fill your taste buds with sweetness and aroma from the prawns, laced with a pungent spicy sourish taste from the herb paste used to fry the noodles.

The key to these noodles is the grounded paste of dried chilies, shallots, dried shrimps, garlic and fermented soya beans paste.
