My washing machine repairman arrived this morning. He took the washing machine apart before giving me the bad news.
— The problem is the motherboard.
— Oh no! I suspected as much. How much will the repair cost?
— $350 for a replacement motherboard, $100 to fit it.
— How long will it take to get the part?
— Three to four weeks.
— Far out! I can’t wait that long! I’ll have to buy a new washing machine!
This conversation occurred while he was reassembling the machine.
He plugged it in and turned it on. And hey presto! Just like magic, it worked!
He smiled. I smiled. I’ve never been so happy to part with $100.
Somewhere in my youth or childhood, I must have done something good.
