One day, an old coworker stopped by the office with a box of donuts. I’m always happy to see him stop by. He was known for bringing donuts to the office every Friday during the summers that he worked with us.

This particular time, I was on a sugar- and alcohol-free diet, so I couldn’t take one. When he held the box out to me, I used a napkin to take an “old fashioned” donut instead of explaining my diet. Out of habit, I’d taken my favorite kind, knowing I wasn’t going to eat it.
