Reflecting on the First Law of Learning

Feeling stuck with a writing project, I sensed drawing would provide precious non-verbal relief. Sometimes, moving away from language is the very thing I need to rekindle my desire to write.

Feeling rusty, I decided to work with a promising YouTube tutorial. The mandala above is the second one I’ve completed with this wonderful teacher’s guidance.

I have understood the center, middle, and outer layers of mandala design for years but never thought to draw diagonal guidelines from the degrees marked on the circumference of a protractor. How did I miss this simple step that takes mandala design to a new level?

And then I remembered one of the biggest takeaways from my teaching career: the law of readiness. What I often observed in my students is also true for me.
