Alliums flower head is a cluster of florets. Each stalk can grow from 5 to 48 inches tall. Grows best in full sun and well-drained soil. It comes in yellow, pink, white, or blue flowers too — blooms late spring and stays for weeks.
Unlike other flowers, alliums’ scent hints at a good old French onion soup. Crush the leaves, and the onion perfume coats your hands — mind-boggling for this beauty to smell like pungent gas.
While the scent doesn’t inspire poets, they make up for it by being undemanding and make excellent cut flowers.
