Spring in the Wisconsin Northwoods

If you looked out the window at our cabin today, you’d see bright sunshine. It looks warm. But, looks can be deceiving, right?!

Ice is still on the lake. There are small piles of snow here and there around the yard. The woods, where we walked with the dog yesterday, still have icy patches sitting precariously on top of fallen oak, hickory, and birch leaves, waiting to trip you while you tread through on the trail.

It’s spring! This is how it looks when the season first starts in the Northwoods. We might have more snow. We might also have rain. But one thing is for sure, our days are longer and the temperatures are slowly becoming more comfortable too.

There’ll be a day soon when we look outside and see an open lake, the loons returning, and the trees turning green.
