Lisa D’s Photo with permission — the kittens named in this story

Spring is in the air, and it’s testing my willpower.

First, a few weeks back, a co-worker brought a basket full of free kittens into the office, and tonight I met a man with a litter of five available pups.

I’m not in the market for a pet. Our cat, Skye, is a dream and would never permit a furry roommate.

But that doesn’t stop me from getting the urge.

It takes one look into those vulnerable eyes, and I’m hooked.

So far, so good. I’ve kept my impulsivity in check, and it’s for the good. No one should adopt a pet on a whim — it’s a lifelong commitment.

I believe in years to come, my husband and I will be ready for a dog when we have more time, and Skye’s too old to argue.
