Springlike Temperatures Warm The Frozen Heart
Sunday sonnet
This past week started with a half-a-foot
of snow, and now it's nearly gone away.
We’ve come from shivering to time to put
the shovels in the shed for good today.
This frozen mess will decompose, and soon,
the daffodils thrust high, a green for all.
Been bathed in glow of March's red blood moon.
Now, all our friends reach out sharp claws and crawl.
Two cottontails debark the apple tree.
Three bluebird pairs show off their songbird rank.
Vole holes show burrowing reality.
Five ospreys float above the riverbank.
Seems all are waiting till the temp feels right.
And then the race is on to reach the light.
