For decades, my family has celebrated New Year’s Eve with dinner at the Country Club down the road.

In the 70s and 80s, my dad wore a tuxedo and my mom wore a floor-length evening gown. Festivity was ensured by noisemakers, party hats, and liberal amounts of champagne and confetti.
