In her groundbreaking book, The Not So Big House, architect Sarah Susanka shared her fresh perspective on designing more purposeful spaces with thoughtful intention to reflect her clients’ values and lifestyles.

Simply put — her philosophy chooses quality over quantity

Her book came to mind as I flipped the calendar and thought about my 2025 goals. As a youngster, I pictured myself living a big life as either the first female president or a world-renowned photographer.

When the mundaneness of life kicks in, those dreams sometimes float in with a sigh, wishing I lived a life bigger than I do.

Yet as this new year dawns, I sense my attitude aligning with Sarah’s book.

Quality and intention matter more than bigness.

Those tenets will infuse this year’s goals.
