The Trumpet Tree
Have you ever stumbled upon a majestic tree, seemingly unnoticed until it bursts into a riot of colors during its bloom?
I recently discovered one near my home. It is known as the Trumpet Tree, and is often referred to as “Singapore’s cherry blossoms”.
Standing tall at 18–25 meters, the Trumpet Tree boasts a grand presence with its large, broadly conical crown, offering a generous shade to passersby.
Unlike many other flowering trees, the Trumpet Tree’s flowers don’t simply wither away. Instead, they retain their vibrant colors for a few days, gracefully carpeting the ground around the tree.
The Trumpet Tree’s flowering is a response to a dry spell.
Typically, these trees burst into bloom following heavy rains after a period of hot and dry weather.
It seems to love the dramatic, using the contrast between dry spells and rain to put on its dazzling floral show.
