Things We Assume Our Children Will Understand
Memories that fill us with joy
My daughter just texted me a few hours ago. “We’re in Sydney,” she said.
“That’s lovely,” I answered. “You both need the break. Enjoy x.”
“I’m here with the girls and the children,” she replied.
“Oh! I was going to say you and Jeremy should get involved in musicals.” (They’re both excellent singers).
“I wonder when Annie will get here?” she texted back.
And then I remembered all those years ago when she and I went to her first musical, Annie.
We were sitting in the front seats, waiting patiently, and she stage-whispered,
“I wonder when Annie will get here?”
So many people laughed and clapped.
And that response saw her being invited onto the stage to meet the real Annie.
She was quite a shy little girl, and this was such a feather in her cap.
