This Fussy Bloom Becomes Its Own Built-In Detonator.
Commonly known as Crossandra infundibuliformis/Firecracker flower
This delicate bloom won the UK Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit in 2017.
Its silky velvet salmon color petals demand shade from the sun. It wilts if it’s too hot and sulks if it’s too cold. Crossandras insist on moist soil, not too much water, but not dry too.
If you meet their fussy conditions, they will grow to 1 meter, with glossy wavy leaves, and will bloom all year round, especially indoors.
This plant belongs to Acanthaceae’s family; hails from southern India and Sri Lanka.
Warning!
When the soft delicate petals dry up, it forms seed pods. These pods explode like the 4th of July fireworks in extreme humidity. The detonation spews the seeds, living up to its name — FIRECRACKER FLOWER!
