Of the unnatural kind
I felt both helpless and empowered. Mostly, a closeness to this woman I’d never met.
Like a wild bird landing in your hand or happening upon a doe in the woods, I couldn’t explain it; but I knew a bond existed between us.
I worried I was feeling this out of loneliness and felt the eyes of judgment upon me.
Several vehicles with sirens blazing sped by the house disturbing the silence.
“Marcela is it always so busy here? I was hoping for a quiet spot to live in?”
“No. Nothing ever happens here in Evergreen.”
I felt a smile take over my face and when Marcela looked up in surprise, she also wore one.
She jumped up throwing her arms around me in a hug, and I felt her coolness inside and out.
Unfortunately, she noticed the anomaly.
