What do I do when my kid asks me for a summer haircut?

I throw on his panda-print barber cape and grab the clippers.

It’s Mother’s Day, but that doesn’t mean I relinquish my parenting for mimosas and manicures. I want to spend as much time with the kids as I can. In fact, the whole family is anxious for SUMMER, (it’s already 90°F(32°C) for heaven's sake), — but the kids have two weeks of school left! Ugh!

So when my kid wants what he calls his “1980s baseball summer ‘do” — I speed through my Mother’s Day cards and banana-nut pancakes (oh so scrummy!) so I can give him one.

He looks in the mirror

“Ma! I love it! ”

He looks again.

“Uh Ma, will this be okay for the school dress code?

“It’s too late now, kid!”
