What?! Do You Know Why The Chain Saw Was Originally Invented?
In 1918 the first portable chainsaw was patented by Canadian, James Shand.
But…
It’s predecessor suprisingly (or shockingly) originated as a medical instrument.
OMG…
In the 19th century, the chainsaw’s initial design was to assist…
In Childbirth!
Obviously, the medical tool didn’t have a gas powered engine that was inserted into the lady’s birth canal!
But, it looked like and was described as ‘the flexible saw’ (with blades like a chainsaw’s in appearance) to cut through and out obstructions.
Over time, medical advancements made these procedures obsolete…THANK GOD! Barbarian Much??
Initially, the wood cutting variety was so large that they required two people to operate. However, post-World War II advancements in materials and engine design made them lighter and more manageable.
