What Happens to Leaves?
After you pile them on the curb?
Every autumn, homeowners pile leaves at the side of the road. A leaf truck picks them up. But how, exactly?
The truck moves slowly but steadily. One worker walks beside it, guiding the giant vacuum hose by the metal handle affixed to it. The hose mouth hangs about 6" above the ground.
A second worker uses a plastic shovel to push leaves closer to the hose. Or even shovels leaves straight into the hose mouth.
The third worker has a rake for the last half-inch or so of leaves. This layer of leftover leaves is raked onto the pile, where the hose and shovel team can get them.
The final leaves are raked onto the shovel and lifted to the hose mouth.
It’s a surprisingly quick and efficient process.
