When I Write I Get to Hold the Mic
Writing gives me a chance to be heard
It sucks not to be heard.
My ex dismissed me. He ignored my voicemails. My opinions didn’t matter.
My boss talks over me. He lectures me without giving me a chance to speak.
When asked a question, sometimes the answer requires digging into my memory bank to retrieve the right information. I may pause before replying. I want to give an accurate response.
In the pause, the person often talks which halts my retrieval process.
It’s so frustrating.
But when I write, I get to hold the mic for as little or as long as I like.
Writing gives me space to develop my thoughts.
Someone may talk while reading my words. They may not even finish them.
But I won’t know.
Writing lets me share my voice uninterrupted.
And that feels really good.
