Do you know that feeling when your zipper stops zipping? We take them for granted when they’re functioning — and when they malfunction? Garments often become trash because replacing is easier than repairing.

I know the temptation to throw things away. Instead, I’ve found resources to support sustainability. Anything beyond my skillset is delegated to the textile-savvy.

Thankfully there are locally-owned shops keeping items in circulation. I recently biked to Repair Lair. They patched my pants and made my shirt zip again.

Next up, a new zipper for my partner’s pants.

Summary of sustainable choices:
• Repairing, not replacing
• Cycling for transportation
• Supporting local, small businesses
