AI for Reading? — The Daily PPILL #243

AI is on fire. I have covered it here several times. GPT3, Chat GPT, DALL-E 2. All of them a showcase on how to leverage them, but I have even began seeing some applications that are embedding these capabilities into their features.

Many of them concentrate in generating text.

But what about AI for reading? Most people I talk to complain that they lack the time to do much reading. Sometimes you have to read the entire 300 pages of a book to get to the main idea you are looking for. Now that we have these tools, we must have some way to ask what is the main idea of those 300 pages, and also, what’s the one idea that hasn’t shown up in other books until then. Sort of the TLDR; engine.

One of the closest things to this that I have found is Consensus (https://consensus.app). It specifically focuses on finding research articles that address a given statement.

Here is another effort involving Microsoft: SQUAD. From what I could gather, it is a learning system that can answer questions about written text previously processed. It is unclear where this project is today.
