Primarily up north

Middleton Park sits mid way between two secondaries in a suburb of Aberdeen. This document outlines a proposed route walk. Overall there is no shortage of visual stimulation.

Use the playground gate and proceed southwards along the footpath upto the old Mains of Scotstown farmhouse. Q. What is it now A. ¨A vibrant community eating place with music¨

Turn 80 degrees and then proceed west south of the tree line and along the back gardens of those living on Jesmond Avenue. Look to your right at the last large house and then the much larger well protected (wire fences and cameras) circular cylinder. Q. What is it A. Water tank

At the end, by the bus stop, carefully cross the road access the small path to the old Whitestripes Road, assemble above the cattle gate and gaze towards the sea. Imagine a hundred or so years earlier a procession of grazing animals coming down from the shire for sale at Kittybrewster market. They would cross the river on the old Brig o Balgownie. Coming in the opposite direction would be mill workers intent on the manufacture of uniforms for members of the Conservative rebels in the red states of the USA.

Looking north note the sweep of the tall beech trees which will protect from the vagaries of the weather. Before the new houses, to the left were built you could see down onto Aberdeen airport, the train line which passes it and then proceeds through the gap in the hills to approach Mons Graupius where the Romans defeated the native Picts in a battle whose exact location is of some speculation.

Let´s go northward to the main road opposite the Christian Fellowship bear right in front of the mobile phone mast and make our way to the heart of this area. At the front of ASDA turn right again and make you way back to school taking care on the last road crossing.

Referring to the first report in this series it is noteworthy to observe the infrastructure variability eg street lighting. Such safety considerations should be built in to the Local Authority planning process.
