Data Quality: Fixing Typos is a $4.5 Billion Market. “The current data quality software market is almost $2 billion. But the real opportunity is much bigger at $4.5 billion since there is a large labor component that can be automated.” writes Kenn So, investor at Shasta Ventures.

3 growing applications of AI in data management. “There are plenty of ways AI can augment data professionals throughout the data pipeline, from sifting through large data sets for duplicates to easing the preparation process.” writes Andy Hayler, CEO at Information Difference.

Without Uncovering Dark Data, You’re Not Uncovering Business Opportunities. In this special guest feature, Odhrán McConnell, Chief Technology Officer at Trint, points out that according to recent estimates, approximately 90 percent of a company’s data is dark, meaning it hasn’t been analyzed or leveraged to the benefit of the business.

What is Augmented Data Preparation and Why is it Important? “The average business user does not have a full grasp of Advanced Data Discovery or Data Preparation methods, and most organizations would not want business users to waste precious time trying to navigate the complexities of a manual data preparation process. If a business provides a solid foundation for self-serve business intelligence with augmented data preparation features, business users can quickly and easily prepare data for analysis and get the results they need to move forward and make decisions.” writes Kartik Patel, CEO at Elegant MicroWeb.

Setting Up for Success: Governing Self-Service BI. “Although many enterprise-ready self-service BI tools will offer built-in governance capabilities, we still need a nuanced approach to maximize their value. A carefully designed strategy will enable organizations to empower their professionals with the immense functionalities that self-service tools offer along with a shared sense of responsibility to maintain data integrity and security.” writes Manish Kedia, Co-Founder & CEO of CloudMoyo.

The unfinished work of building modern enterprises. “Without data integration and the connection of people, processes, and technology, organizations will fall short of modernization efforts.” writes Ajit Melarkode, Vice President, Asia Pacific & Japan, Boomi.

Do You Need a Chief Data Scientist? “The reason why you need a Chief Data Scientist in the first place is you need somebody who can bridge the gap between management and [the data scientists], and what machine learning can do and cannot do,” says Ira Cohen, co-founder and CTO of Anodot. “You need somebody who understands what it is in a deeper form than a CTO, who might have broader knowledge of a lot of things, but not necessarily machine learning.”
