Learning
When I was in school learning didn’t feel fun. I can tell you with 100% certainty that my Data Structures & Algorithms class was dreadful. But learning is exciting. It unlocks new opportunities, enhances perspective, and it keeps you curious and open to the world.
This past year I’ve learned a lot. One of the more memorable learnings was riding a bike. Not knowing how to ride a bike haunted me during my childhood and was a source of embarrassment, but this past summer with the help of my wife Gillian I learned how to ride a bike in Prospect Park. Now I’m hopping on my bike and riding almost every day. When I need to run an errand I hop on my bike. Rather than taking the subway to Crossfit at 5AM, I bike (it’s a great way to warm up). Not to mention that I feel my chances of surviving a zombie apocalypse have increased because I can ride a bike.
I’m excited to keep learning. Already, I’ve started experimenting with an Arduino and have started coding again and it’s been a great feeling. So while I don’t participate in New Year resolutions I must admit I’m excited to learn new tricks this year.
