Fantasy Baseball and Sales Development: Data Is Mission Critical
Data driven decisions and their long run impact
Whether you are playing in your annual fantasy baseball league or executing a sales development process, there’s a universal truth to success- data is really important. Baseball data dictates how you draft your fantasy team and any acquisitions you might make during the season, and prospect data (name, phone, email, social, account mapping, etc) is a prerequisite for success in a sales development process.
Just like any other sales development component, the quality of that data is extremely important — the higher the quality, the better your decisions will be (note to the reader, I’m examining my own fantasy baseball team here and cannot stress enough how poorly it’s doing).
Prospect Data Sources
For both fantasy baseball and sales development there are a multitude of data repositories. Need to know what a rookie is projected to hit in his first year in the big leagues? Go check out ESPN and his minor-league stats. Or Yahoo, or MLB.com, or Rotoworld. There a ton of places you can get the information you want, all presented in a different way. The same goes for sales development. Need to identify prospects for an Account Based Outbound program? We use infoAnalytica for our data, but others like Data.com and Zoominfo work well. Need to know what your target account is already using for their digital marketing? Try a Builtwith.com search or throw them into the Wappalyzer. Quality prospect data is out there, so use it!
Prospect Data Quality
The trick to effectively using all this data is to the find the best source for each piece of information you need. Do you need historical baseball stats? Then you should stick to checking baseballreference.com, and nothing else. Are you looking for customized prospecting lists based on market triggers? Then you should head over to infoAnalytica. It’s all about figuring out what you need and where the highest quality of that information lies.
Good luck, and I hope my dismal fantasy baseball team serves as a warning of the use of low grade data!
