The Hope of Opening Day

Dear Opening Day,
Today is Opening Day in Major League Baseball. It’s my favorite day of the year. The excitement I feel on this day is closely rivaled by Christmas or my birthday, but I’d honestly say Opening Day takes the crown.
On Opening Day every team is in 1st place (although the Kansas City Royals won last night so technically my Minnesota Twins are not in 1st place, but you get the idea). Every team leaves sunny spring training with a sunny attitude and hope for the 162 games to come. Even if your team has bleak hopes, the organization is still chanting the company line of “we have some great young players” or “you never know what can happen.”
Soon there will be good teams and bad teams after they’ve all played a few games, but on Opening Day everyone has hope. Everyone believes in themselves and their teammates. It’s that same feeling you get with a pristine piece of white paper.
When is your Opening Day?
What can motivate you or your team to have a clean slate full of hope? How can you capture that Opening Day feeling and put it to good use?
I encourage you to focus on an opportunity, challenge, or task that can provide that feeling of hope. Find a metric or milestone you can chase and embrace the feeling of Opening Day. New Years Day and Opening Day are two of the most hope-filled days of the year, but they are just two days out of 365 on the calendar.
Focus on YOUR Opening Day that can happen any day of the year. Step up to the plate and seize the opportunity.
Go Twins!
Sincerely,
